The Aberdeen Stirling X539 storage server can provide up to 72TB of pure SATA storage. This behemoth “TeraStorus” expandable storage solution can deliver beyond 1 Petabyte of additional network capacity by utilizing the Aberdeen XDAS expansion enclosures.

With the continued storage file explosion and the need for high-volume scalable capacity, choosing the correct storage solution strategy hinges upon having the storage scalability to grow seamlessly from 1 Terabyte to 1 Petabyte.

The Stirling X539 features Intel Microarchitecture, codenamed Nehalem, featuring Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, hich increases performance by increasing processor frequency and enabling faster speeds when conditions allow. (This feature is supported on most Xeon 5520 and higher.)

The custom configurable Stirling X539 rackmount server features the Intel 5520 (Tylersberg-EP) chipset and utilizes Intel® QuickPath Interconnect Technology enabled Intel Xeon 5500 Series (Gainestown) processors which can achieve 6.4 GT/s and 4.8 GT/s data transfer speeds.

The scalability benefits of the Stirling X539 can be seen immediately. This server features, dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN and an external SFF-8088 SAS expansion port on the new LSI SAS2 RAID controller.

Next-Generation SAS RAID

LSI™ MegaRAID SATA+SAS controllers provide a new level of reliability, availability, and performance to businesses that are facing storage challenges driven by unprecedented data growth. The MegaRAID SAS 9280-16i4e, with sixteen internal and four external ports, supports both internal drive storage and external JBOD expansion for up to 240 SATA or SAS drives. With a large number of internal ports, the 9280-16i4e connects up to 16 drives inside the server via direct connection or passive backplane. Using the external SAS ports, multiple JBODs can be connected to a server, providing a scalable and affordable solution for growing storage requirements.

6Gb/s SAS Performance Advantage

With data transfer rates of up to 6Gb/s per port, the MegaRAID SAS 9280-16i4e bring users new features and improved performance, while continuing to support all the features of the previous 3Gb/s SATA+SAS generation. 6Gb/s SAS is designed for backward compatibility with 3Gb/s SAS as well as with 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s SATA hard drives. Regardless of the drive speed, 6Gb/s MegaRAID controllers are designed to deliver significant performance improvements in both read and write applications as compared to their 3Gb/s predecessors.
